Importance of Marriage in Islam

We can realize the importance of marriage in Islam with the example of Hazrat Adam and Hawwa. Allah SWT first created Hazrat Adam A.S. Then He SWT created his partner Hawwa (Eve) as a company of him.

In Islam, the most favorite and sacred relation is the relation of spouses after their marriage (Nikah). Allah SWT has formed men and women as best companions of each other. The act of marriage or “Nikah” upturns the sustenance, affection, admiration, care, and love between a man and a woman.

Allah SWT says in Quran,

 Translation

“And it is among His signs that He has created for you wives from among yourself, so that you may find tranquility in them, and He has created love and mercy between you. Surely in this, there are signs for people who reflect”.

(Quran 30: 21)

Islam put great importance on the act of getting married. Our religion is a strong protector of the sacred knot of marriage.

Holy Prophet PBUH said once,

“Marriage is my tradition, whosoever keeps away from it is not from amongst us”

Marriage in Islam is considered the great Sunnah of our Holy Prophet SAWW. It is taken as a way to increase your faith and perform a religious obligation in Islam. The act of Nikah brings a man and woman closer to each other in a holy and sacred way.

Allah loves the person who meets his/her spouse with a smile. A man and woman connected with each other with the holy act of Nikah is a source of mutual regard, love, respect, kindness, and mercy.

Islam Prohibits Illegal Relation between a Man and Woman

Human nature looks for spiritual and mystical chastity. And Satan is always there to trap you in its world of sins. In this state, the holy relation of marriage guarantees to give you all kinds of physical and spiritual comfort. Prophet Muhammad SAWW said once,

“There is no chastity in Islam”

Islam does not suppress the sexual instincts of a human being. But there are explicit rules and laws regarding a pure relationship between a man and a woman. Prophet Muhammad PBUH said,

“One who marries has already guarded half of his religion. Therefore he should fear Allah for the other half”

It is also mentioned in The Quran that,

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ ٥

 Translation

“And those who guard their chastity”

(Quran 23:5)

In the above-mentioned ayah, Allah SWT is saying about the person who gets married and does not go for illicit relations. Allah SWT loves purity and cleanliness. To live a pure, healthy, prosperous, and honorable life, marriage is the best-recommended way in Islam.

Prophet Muhammad SAWW said once,

“Whoever likes to follow my tradition, he should know that marriage is from my tradition”.

Staying bachelor or unmarried is never fortified in Islam. Rather marriage is an obligatory part of religion and social status. To live an uncontaminated and pure life, our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW’s highly recommended act is the act of getting married.

According to a hadith Prophet Muhammad PBU said,

“O young men, whoever among you can afford it, let him get married. For it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding chastity. And whoever cannot then he should fast. For it will be a restraint for him”

To live a devout, pious, and religious life, we should follow the teachings of Islam according to the Quran and Sunnah. May Almighty Allah keep us away from evil deeds and wrongdoings. May Allah SWT bless all of us with His countless blessings and give us the courage to be the best example of a practical Muslim. Ameen
