Sunnah is an Arabic word that means “A habitual practice”. It commonly relates to an act that any of the messenger of Allah Almighty has done in his life. Following the Sunnah can be a great source of blessings in one’s life. In this article we are going to explore some of the most beautiful Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW.

No doubt Quran is a complete book of guidance for Muslims in all over the world. But we can learn the practical teachings of Islam from Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW. In the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad PBUH we see excessive examples in every aspect of life to spend our lives according to Islam.

Here are some Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW that can be easily followed in our daily life.

Sunnah of Wakening up in The Morning

After opening the eyes in morning to rub the both eyes and saying this dua is a Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ.

“All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us and unto Him is the resurrection”.

(Bukhari)

Using Miswaak (cleaning up teach and mouth with twig) in morning is also a Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW during ablution.

Sunnah of Leaving Home

When we leave our home we have faith in Allah Almighty that He is protector of house in our absence and He is going to grant us success for the purpose we are leaving our home.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW used to recite this dua when he PBUH leaving his house for mosque or to go anywhere.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْـتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُـوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ.

“In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah”.

(Tirmidhi)

Sunnah of Eating

Spreading a cloth on ground to dine is Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW. According to Sunnah we should take off our shoes, wash our hand and say ‘Bissmillah’ before eating anything. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW never used to find faults in food. Always used right hand to eat and drink. It is mentioned in ‘Tirmizi’ that Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to recite this dua after eating his food.

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا، وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

“All praise is due to Allah Who has given me food to eat and provided it without any endeavor on my part or any power”.

(Tirmithi)

Here are some sunnah of drinking water.

  • Always look into the glass before drinking water either it is neat and clean.
  • Never drink water while you are standing. To sit and drink water is Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad PBUH
  • Say ‘Bismillah’ before drinking water.
  • To drink water in three breaths is Sunnah
  • Say ‘Alhamdolillah’ after drinking water.

Sunnah of Visiting the Sick Person

Holy Prophet Muhammad SAWW said,

“Visit the sick”

(Bukhari)

It is the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW to visit the sick person. He PBUH used to visit the sick person and did not spend too much time there so the patient and the family did not feel inconvenience.

He PBUH always consoled the sick person in all the possible ways. We should also give a hope to sick person that he will recover soon and ALLAH SWT will grant him health INSHA ALLAH.

We should recite this dua while visiting a sick person.

لَا بَأْسَ طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّه

“Do not worry, it will be a purification (for you), Allah willing”.

To greet someone with saying salaam is also a beautiful Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW. To say salam to each other is obligatory for every Muslim either you are familiar to him or not.

When we enter into a gathering we should sit wherever we get some place. We shouldn’t disturb anyone for our sitting arrangement. It is the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW.

It is also the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAWW to take permission before entering into the house of someone.

Whenever our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAWW felt some disturbance or difficulty, he PBUH used to say ‘Salat Hajaat’.
